ArcelorMittal Bremen digitised 400,000 documents with OneDMS.
Together with the LM IT Services AG has one of Germany's largest steel production sites replaced a historically grown system landscape with a centralised, scalable document management platform based on Microsoft SharePoint Online superseded.

Every established company knows this feeling: systems that have accumulated over the years, processes that hardly anyone fully understands anymore, and employees who spend more time daily searching for information than on their actual work. At ArcelorMittal Bremen, einem der größten Stahlstandorte Deutschlands, zeigte sich das ganz konkret: Zwei parallel betriebene Dokumentenmanagementsysteme sorgten für steigende Lizenz- und Wartungskosten, ließen sich nur mit hohem Aufwand an moderne Such- und KI-Funktionen anbinden und boten lediglich nutzerbezogene statt dokumentenspezifische Berechtigungen. Ziel war deshalb nicht irgendeine neue Software — sondern eine zentrale, moderne Plattform, die konsequent von den tatsächlichen Bedürfnissen der Fachbereiche ausgeht, granulare Berechtigungen auf Dokumentenebene von Anfang an mitbringt und offen für künftige Technologien wie KI ist.
Our approach
Peer-to-peer collaboration between the business department and IT.
Rather than imposing requirements, we developed them together — in short, agile sprints, with continuous feedback and a governance structure that is driven by the business, not by IT.

For over 17 months, the specialist departments and IT teams at ArcelorMittal Bremen worked closely with the project team from LM IT Services AG — from requirements analysis to the successful rollout.

Objectives & Solution
A platform with a clear focus
As part of the project, a unified platform was established that brings together document structures, metadata, permissions and automated processes into a single solution — technically based on Microsoft SharePoint Online within the Microsoft 365 cloud, specifically enhanced and adapted to the specific requirements of ArcelorMittal Bremen.

Implementation in detail
Modern Control and Automation
Power Apps was used to create customised user interfaces for day-to-day work — including a commenting system for documents, links between DMS documents, and automated document templates with metadata import. Behind the scenes, Power Automate and Azure Logic Apps handle the entire document lifecycle: from creation and dual-signature verification to automatic resubmission when revisions are due and archiving.
Large-scale migration
Around 380,000 documents were migrated from the legacy systems. Customised migration scripts automatically and securely transferred documents, metadata and version histories to the new platform.
150 automated workflows
Power Automate and Azure Logic Apps manage the entire document lifecycle — from creation through review and approval processes based on the dual-control principle, right through to automatic resubmission and archiving.
600+ trained users
Around 600 users were prepared for the new way of working through training courses, workshops and accompanying measures.
26 technical requirements
Over the entire project duration, 26 functional requirements were implemented — the result is a central solution with uniform structures and clear authorization concepts.
Successful launch — and what follows
Go-live in May 2026 — transitioned to operations on schedule.
During the subsequent hypercare phase, users will continue to be supported and the platform will be continuously developed. OneDMS creates the basis for more efficient document management, sustainable cost reduction, and further digitalisation initiatives at ArcelorMittal Bremen.
