Well protected on the web: Defender Application Guard for Edge

A new e-mail in your inbox

I receive an e-mail from an applicant with a link to one of his references or his personal website:
https://tinyurl.com/gefahr123

The link doesn't look quite right to me. What should I do now?

Just open it?
And risk malware or something similar hiding behind the link and infecting my computer or even my entire IT environment?

Or simply don't open it?
And risk not being able to attract a potential applicant as a result?

In such a case, one of the many features of Microsoft Defender can help: the Defender Application Guard!

Microsoft Defender Application Guard

The Application Guard for Edge is part of the Windows Defender for Windows 10 and Windows 11, which allows the end user to call up a secure, so-called "virtualised" environment within their own browser. This separate environment is detached from the actual Windows operating system and the browser. This means additional protection when surfing the internet.

In terms of configuration, a distinction is made between Standalone mode and managed mode. In the Standalone mode we can offer this feature to users as an option so that they can use it when they need it. In the Managed mode we can go one step further and automatically open all untrusted pages in the Application Guard, i.e. all those that we have not explicitly placed on an Allow list.
