Team building with a difference
Even if it seems like a luxury problem at first glance in times of skills shortages and the war of talent, we were faced with the major challenge of adapting our internal structures to the strong growth in the consulting sector and integrating many new, motivated young colleagues into the team and preparing them for the change. So we quickly came up with the idea that we needed a team-building programme.

But what do you do? What is an offer that picks up the colleagues, is fun and ensures sustainable integration in the company? And as many of the team still enjoy playing computer games, despite having spent their childhood there, we quickly realised that this would be a good approach. After all, "gaming" is also fun for many others and, especially with the right games and the right organisation, this could provide exactly the right framework.
An easily accessible, digital event where everyone can get to know each other better and spend enjoyable, entertaining and fun evenings at the same time. But why limit it to the consulting sector? This could also be interesting for the entire company and promote dialogue and communication across departments.
And so the idea for the first LM-eLympiade born!
How the Board of Directors was won over for a gaming tournament
Now all that remained was to convince the management that it was a good idea for the company to promote computer games within the organisation and thus have a positive effect on employees and encourage them to identify with the company. And so the colleagues set about convincing the Management Board, which had certainly had little contact with the topic to date, to organise a company-wide computer games tournament.
Despite the initial reservations, it quickly became clear that the advantages of such an offer had aroused interest and the decision in favour of such a digital event was quickly made. Particularly in view of the fact that the games were to take place in leisure time and the organisation was in the hands of just a few people, the business risk was also kept within limits. We were therefore able to announce the event company-wide as part of our Christmas party and start the first games evening immediately after the turn of the year.

How was it received?
As hoped, the announcement met with lively interest and we were able to register well over 30 active players at the first game night. Just as many interested people followed the live broadcast on Twitch and cheered on their colleagues. In total, we determined a winning team over 7 days and several months in five exciting and very entertaining disciplines. This team was duly celebrated at the final team evening with a cosy beer and a delicious grilled sausage and was able to explain to the other teams in long conversations how they managed to win the first cup of the LM eLympiade.
The presentation of the trophy was a really nice way to round off the event. And one thing has remained with both the staff and the Management Board: The eLympiade has brought us much closer together as LM, we have grown as a team and we believe in this format. That's why we're already looking forward to a repeat next year! You can find out more about the event in our video on YouTube.
